FAQ’s

Q
Why do the Speedflex machines only work in one plane of motion?
A

The Speedflex system is highly advanced in what it can help the human body to achieve. However, as a safety mechanism, the machine only allows for movements in one plane (up and down). In order to give Speedflex users a work out that engages the entire body, specific, low risk exercise variations on the machines are added into sessions. By adding these exercises sessions are more varied and trainers are always able to physiologically challenge the body so it will never become accustomed to the exercise, allowing for constant improvement and progression.

Q
Can you work your core muscles in a Speedflex session
A

Core muscles are engaged and worked in the majority of exercises completed by users on the Speedflex machine, however, the additional equipment (Bosu Balls, Plyo Boxes) added into sessions and designed to encourage coordination and balance which helps engage core muscles specifically.

Q
How do we calculate your calorie burn?
A

Speedflex uses Polar Team2 software to analyze your training in real time, providing you with feedback on your heart rate and energy expenditure (calories you have burnt) while you exercise. Polar is recognised as one of the market leaders and has been developing pioneering technology to understand the body since the 1970s.

The Polar software calculates your energy expenditure based on prediction equations that have been evaluated in a series of research projects. The equation takes into account a number of factors which include: body weight, height, age, gender, your heart rate during exercise and your aerobic fitness.

The amount of energy that you expend during exercise depends on the intensity and duration of the activity. The higher the intensity and the longer the duration of the exercise, the higher the energy expenditure will be. Energy expenditure is also dependent on body weight; a heavier person consumes more energy than a lighter one when performing the same exercise because the mass that the person needs to move is greater. Furthermore, the larger the muscle mass used in the exercise the greater the energy expended.

By taking into account your specific individual factors (such as your weight, gender and aerobic fitness) Polar can produce a better estimation of your calorie burn during your Speedflex session than you would get from say, running on the treadmill in the gym.

Q
How can you find out if you’re progressing?
A

Each person participating in a Speedflex session has their heart rate monitored for the duration of the workout. This not only allows users to quantify their efforts but also provides a benchmark for individuals, for example if a member regularly trains at an intensity of 87%, they could set a goal to reach 90% in their next session.  The same can be said for personal calorie counts.

Q
How long will it take to see the effects of training?
A

In reality everyone’s body is unique and responds to exercise in different ways. For example, changes in body composition and weight loss are often related to diet. In general, when completing the recommended levels of exercise (three Speedflex sessions a week) you should start to notice a change in your body at around four to six weeks of training.

Q
How can I book into a session?
A

There are many ways to book into a Speedflex session. First and foremost it is important to note that new Speedflex users will need to complete an induction session, which can only be booked via telephone or email or in person.

Speedflex members can book into sessions by telephone, online (through the ‘Member log in’ portal on our website) or through the mobile phone app ‘Speedflex Fitness’. To book online and through the app members will require a username and password which can be issued by your Speedflex Center or created by yourself when you download the APP.
